This website came into being as result of two main factors. The first being back problems and the second being the dilemma of trying to decide which type and cost of bed to buy in order to help or protect a bad back.
As anyone with a back complaint will know, life can be made pretty miserable through a combination of aches, pain and sometimes difficulty with movement. If you have a bed and mattress that do not rest and support the back adequately, any existing troubles are exacerbated and life can become almost intolerable. This is where an orthopedic mattress comes in.
Equally, if you think that your back is healthy and every night you unknowingly aggravate it by sleeping on a poorly supporting mattress, you may have back problems waiting for you in the future.
Either way, knowing a bit about beds, how they work and how they can help your body get a good night’s sleep, cannot be a bad thing.
This website was put together to try and take a broad view of all of the different bed and mattress types from the cheap budget innerspring mattresses to the brand name memory foams. It focuses mainly on popular bed constructions like visco elastic memory foam and pocket springs, however gel, mattresses with magnets and many other less common bed types are also covered. The idea is to try and give independent assessments of these different generic bed types so that anyone visiting this website can draw their own conclusions and inform themselves so as to be in a better position to by the right mattress for their needs.
Naturally a bed or mattress is a very subjective thing and this is why some people like foams and some people like springs. In fact some people sleep very well on what are really very poor mattresses, whilst other people struggle on high quality beds.
That said, always find out as much as you can, get different views (not just the ones on this website) and speak to friends or relatives about their beds and what they do and do not like about them. Information and knowledge can only help and the more that you know the less likely it is that you will regret any bed buying choice that you make in the future.
The observation that is repeated throughout this website is that approximately one third of a typical life is spent sleeping, so what you sleep on has got to be important. Always bear this in mind when contemplating a bed buying decision.
